ORKES SIMFONI NASIONAL INDONESIA (OSNI)
Orkes Simfoni Nasional Indonesia (OSNI), The National Symphony Orchestra of Indonesia, is Indonesia’s national symphonic ensemble under the leadership of Music Director Dr. Kuei Pin Yeo, Conductor Jap Tji Kien, Indonesia’s esteemed violinist and conductor and the first FRSM (Fellowship Royal School of Music, London) Award recipient.
Founded in 2003, OSNI has been committed to lifelong artistic excellence and music education and appreciation. The orchestra numbers 50 musicians, presenting year-long seasons of more than 50 concerts. These include classical series, pop concerts, summer performances at the annual Jakarta International Summer Music Festival (JISMF) and at the biannual ASEAN International Concerto Competition (AICC). OSNI’s dedication to the development of Indonesia’s artistic resources begins in the classroom, makes its way to international concert halls, and stretches to communities, making music at various community schools, medical facilities, community centers, and other neighborhood venues all around the country and abroad.
In 2003, Mr. Jap conducted an orchestra and chorus of 1000 members including the joint orchestra and choir of Gita Bahana Nusantara Youth Orchestra and the Yayasan Musik Jakarta Music School Orchestra. In 2014, OSNI was engaged in partnership by Ritz-Carlton Hotel Indonesia to be the Resident Orchestra in performances supporting its year-round Corporate Social Responsibility program of music, education, and community giving.
Over the course of its history, OSNI has engaged in many international tours, most recently to Europe in 2012 and Java in 2014. The orchestra regularly participates in events of national and international acclaim, including performances for state occasions, official holiday celebrations, and presidential affairs. OSNI can be heard regularly on the campus of Yayasan Musik Jakarta.
